Site clearance cost and what really drives it

Written by Craig, Foundation Garden & Trees

Clearance is priced on volume and access, not on plot size alone. A narrow side gate can cost more than an extra half acre.

Waste disposal is usually the largest single line in a clearance quote.

Access for a machine and a grab or tipper is the biggest variable.

Mixed waste costs more to dispose of than clean green waste.

The four things we price

Every clearance quote comes down to what is on the plot, how we reach it, how much comes off and what it turns into afterwards.

  • Vegetation type: soft brambles clear fast, mature scrub and stumps do not
  • Access: full machine access, restricted side access or hand clearance only
  • Waste split: clean green waste against mixed rubbish, soil, rubble or fly tipping
  • Finish: cleared and raked, or levelled ready for turf or hardstanding

Where the money goes

On an overgrown domestic garden, most of the cost sits in loading and tipping. On a commercial plot with machine access, the machine day is efficient and disposal still dominates.

Fly tipped waste is the expensive surprise. Tyres, mattresses, asbestos sheeting and paint cannot go through green waste and need separate handling.

How to get an accurate figure quickly

Walk the boundary and photograph each corner, then photograph the access route from the road. Tell us the rough dimensions and what you intend to do with the ground afterwards.

We are fully insured registered waste carriers and provide waste transfer documentation on commercial clearances.

Common questions

Frequently asked

Is site clearance priced by the day or by the job?

We quote a fixed price for the job once we know the access and waste volume. Day rates only make sense where the extent of the work genuinely cannot be seen yet.

Does the price include tipping fees?

Yes, disposal is included in the quoted figure, and we make clear which waste types are covered before starting.

What if there is fly tipped rubbish on the plot?

We price it separately because it is graded and tipped differently. Point it out in your photos so it is in the quote rather than a surprise.

Can you clear a garden with no rear access?

Yes, by barrowing out through the property or using the smallest machine that fits the gateway. It takes longer, which is why access affects the price so much.

Do you provide waste transfer notes?

Yes. We are registered waste carriers and issue documentation for commercial and landlord clearances as standard.
