New-build gardens often have a thin layer of soil over compacted subsoil and builder's rubble. Those plots need extra preparation, and sometimes imported topsoil, so the turf has something to root into rather than struggling from its first summer.
Turf is often the final stage of a wider project. After a garden clearance or landscaping work, a new lawn ties the space together. Laying it as part of the same job means the levels around paths, gravel and borders are set once, and the edges meet cleanly.
