City access work

Norwich tree work where nothing can simply be felled

City tree work is rope work. In a Golden Triangle terrace or a Thorpe Hamlet garden there is no drop zone, no room for a crane and often no vehicle access, so the tree comes down in pieces and every piece is lowered.

Sectional dismantling in a small plot

The climber works down the tree in controlled sections, rigging each one out over the conservatory, greenhouse or neighbouring roof rather than dropping it. It is slower than felling, and it is the only safe answer where there is nothing to fell into.

We agree the method and the rigging points with you before the climb, so you know exactly what will happen over your garden.

  • Roped lowering over glass, roofs and boundaries
  • Chipper positioned on the street with the route protected
  • Neighbours notified where a limb overhangs their side
  • Site swept and cleared the same day, every time

Victorian gardens and inherited trees

A lot of Norwich terraces carry one large tree planted well before anyone thought about the house. Removal is not always the answer. A crown lift and a reduction usually returns the light without losing the tree, and often costs less.

Autumn is the busy season here

Mature street and garden trees mean serious leaf fall. Leaves on wet city paving and in gulleys become a slip risk and a drainage problem, so most Norwich customers book two or three clearance visits across the fall rather than one at the end.

Norwich questions

Answers before you call

Can a large tree be removed from a small city garden?

Yes, by dismantling it in sections and lowering each piece on ropes. It takes longer than a straight fell but nothing has to be dropped.

Where does the chipper go if there is no driveway?

Usually on the street with the pedestrian route managed and protected, and loading timed around parking restrictions.

Is my Norwich tree likely to be protected?

Many trees in the city's conservation areas are. Check with Norwich City Council before booking work, and we will write the specification for any notice or application.

How often should city leaves be cleared?

Two or three visits between late October and early December keeps paving safe and stops gulleys blocking.
