Tree work in Mildenhall and the forest-edge villages
Mildenhall sits at the edge of Thetford Forest, and many gardens in the town, West Row and Beck Row back onto pine belts or shelter planting. Scots pine and Leylandii are the trees we are most often called about here: reductions where they have outgrown the garden, felling where they have become too big for the plot, and stump removal afterwards.
Older properties around the town centre have mature broadleaf trees in smaller plots, where dismantling in sections is the norm. Before any work, it is worth checking with West Suffolk Council whether a tree carries a preservation order or stands in a conservation area. Our tree surgery service explains how jobs are planned around buildings and boundaries.
Hedges on the estate roads and rural plots
The town's post-war estates are full of established boundary hedges, many of them conifers planted decades ago that now need annual control or a firm reduction. Regular hedge cutting keeps them dense and at a workable height; where a Leylandii run has gone beyond trimming, we can take it down and clear the stumps.
On the larger rural plots towards the fens and the airfield side, hedgerows and shelter belts need the same attention at a bigger scale, with waste chipped and removed rather than left in heaps.
Fencing for gardens and paddocks
Fencing in Mildenhall ranges from close board boundaries between houses on the estates to post and rail around paddocks and smallholdings on the village edges. Sandy Breckland ground holds posts differently to heavy clay, so posts are set to a proper depth and corners braced where the soil is soft.
Craig replaces storm damaged runs, repairs leaning posts and builds new fences and gates. See the fencing service for the styles covered.
Landscaping and bigger garden projects
Newer estates around the town have compact plots that benefit from a rethink: gravel where turf struggles on the sand, raised borders, a level lawn laid on properly prepared ground. Larger village gardens often combine clearance, fencing and turf in one project.
Our landscaping service covers combined projects planned around how you use the garden, and nearby Brandon shows the same approach around our home town.
