Yes, we remove tree stumps across Suffolk and Norfolk. A stump can be ground away below the surface for a lawn or bed to go back over it, or dug out whole with a tracked machine when the ground is needed for a base, a path or new building work.
The right method depends on what the ground is for next, so the first question Craig asks is what you want to do with the space once the stump has gone.
Stump work is always priced as its own line, whether the tree came down last week, years ago or as part of the same job.

Stump grinding: the tidy option for lawns and beds
Grinding cuts the stump away below soil level and turns the timber into chippings mixed with earth. The wider lateral roots stay in the ground and rot away slowly. For most homeowners who simply want the stump out of sight and grass or plants back over the spot, grinding is the sensible answer.
The hole left behind is filled with the grindings and topped with soil. Because the wood fibres break down, the patch can sink a little over the next few months, so a top up before turf or seed goes down is normal rather than a sign anything went wrong.
Digging a stump out whole
Where a shed base, patio, path or extension is planned, ground roots left in the soil can cause problems later. In those cases the stump and its root ball are lifted out with a tracked machine, the same equipment used on our clearance work, and the hole is backfilled and levelled.
Digging out also suits several stumps in one area, such as an old row of conifers along a boundary, where clearing the whole strip in one go is quicker than grinding each one separately.
Best before building, paving or laying a base
Removes the main root plate, not just the visible wood
Hole backfilled and graded afterwards
Tree stump removal near me: who we cover
We are based in Brandon and take on stump work across the Suffolk and Norfolk area we already cover for tree surgery. If you are searching for someone local, send a photo of the stump with something for scale, plus the location, and Craig can tell you which method fits and give an initial estimate.
What affects stump grinding cost
We do not publish fixed prices because no two stumps are alike. These are the things that move the price up or down, so you know what to mention when you get in touch.
Diameter of the stump at ground level
Species and how hard the timber is
Access: gate width, steps and distance from the drive
Whether nearby walls, pipes or paving limit the method
How many stumps are being done in one visit
Whether grindings stay on site or are taken away
Why the stump is quoted separately from felling
When we fell a tree, the stump is shown as a separate price. Some customers are happy to keep a low stump as a seat or a plinth, others want the ground back straight away. Pricing it separately means nobody pays for stump work they did not ask for, and you can always come back to it later.
If the tree is still standing and you are weighing up the whole job, our tree surgery page explains how felling and crown work are planned.
Leaving the site ready to use
Once the stump is out, the area is raked over, levelled and left tidy. We are fully insured and registered waste carriers, so any timber, roots and spoil that leave the site are taken away properly rather than left in a heap at the bottom of the garden.
Grinding suits lawns and planting going back over the spot. Digging out suits anywhere a base, path or building is planned, because the main root plate comes out too.
How much does stump grinding cost?
It depends on the stump's size, the timber, access and how many stumps are done at once. Send a photo and location for an initial estimate rather than a guess.
Can you remove a stump from a tree someone else felled?
Yes. Old stumps left by previous work are a common job, and they are assessed in exactly the same way.
Will the ground sink after a stump is ground out?
It can settle slightly as the buried wood rots, so a top up of soil before turfing or seeding is normal.
