Looking for a lawn mowing service? Craig cuts grass on a one-off or regular basis, trims the edges and takes the clippings away. Bigger lawns and open grass are cut with a ride-on mower, so the size of the area is rarely a problem.
Grass cutting can be booked on its own, without signing up for a full garden maintenance visit. If you would rather the hedges and borders were looked after too, that is what the garden maintenance service is for.
Send a photo of the lawn and a rough idea of its size, and Craig can tell you how often it is likely to need cutting and how he would tackle it.

Grass cutting services, one-off or on a round
Most people book one of two things. The first is a regular cut through the growing season, so the lawn never gets away from you. The second is a single visit to bring back grass that has been left for weeks, perhaps after a holiday, a house move or a spell of poor health.
A regular round keeps the height steady, which is kinder to the grass and quicker to cut. A one-off cut on long grass usually takes two passes: the first at a high setting to take the bulk off, then a lower pass to leave an even finish without scalping the lawn.
What a visit includes
A grass cutting visit is about the lawn itself, finished properly rather than mown and left.
Mowing at a height that suits the season and the condition of the grass
Edges cut back along beds, paths and drives
Strimming around trees, posts and awkward corners
Clippings collected and taken away, not left in heaps
Paths and patios blown or swept clear of cuttings
Large lawns cut with a ride-on mower
Big gardens, orchards, grass around commercial buildings and open areas on larger properties are cut with a ride-on mower. It covers the ground far faster than a pedestrian mower and gives a consistent finish across a wide area.
For paddocks, fields and rougher grass that needs mowing or topping rather than a lawn finish, see the separate paddock mowing service, which is planned around grazing and ground conditions.
How often should a lawn be cut?
In spring and early summer, when grass grows fastest, most lawns look best with a cut every week or two. Growth slows in hot, dry spells and again from autumn, so visits can be spaced out. The sandy soil around Brandon and the Brecks dries out quickly in summer, and cutting a little higher during dry weather helps the grass cope.
The aim is never to take off more than about a third of the blade in one go. Cutting too short, too often, thins the lawn and lets weeds and moss move in.
What decides the price of a cut
There is no fixed figure on this site, because lawns vary so much. The things that change a quote are the size of the area, how long the grass is, how much edging and strimming is needed, access for the mower and the volume of clippings to remove. A regular round is usually simpler to price than a one-off cut on an overgrown lawn.
Cutting grass that has been left to grow
Very long grass needs a different approach from a weekly mow. It is cut down in stages so the mower is not overloaded and the lawn underneath is not shocked into turning yellow. Hidden objects, such as toys, stones and hosepipes, are cleared first, and the cut grass is raked off rather than left to smother what is beneath. After a heavy first cut, a lawn usually needs a few regular visits before it looks even again.
Craig works from Brandon and cuts grass across Suffolk and Norfolk, travelling 30 to 60 miles, including Bury St Edmunds, Thetford, Newmarket and Downham Market.
Can I book a single grass cut?
Yes. One-off cuts are available for lawns that have grown long, as well as regular visits through the season.
Do you take the clippings away?
Yes. Clippings are collected and removed as part of the visit, and paths are cleared of cuttings.
Can you cut a very large lawn?
Yes. Larger lawns and open grass are cut with a ride-on mower, which handles big areas quickly and evenly.
How much does it cost to cut a lawn?
It depends on the size, the length of the grass, edging, access and clippings. Send a photo and rough size and Craig will price it.
